How should I care for my pearls?
PEARLS ARE VERY SOFT. They must be handled with special care.
All body oils, makeup, hair spray, perfumes, &c. should be
applied BEFORE the pearl jewelry is worn. Many of these substances
can spot the surface of this organic gem.
After the pearls piece has been worn, wipe it off with a soft
cloth. Use mild, soapy water to clean pearls. (BARRETT'S offers
a cleaning solution specially formulated for pearls.) DO NOT use
cleaning solvents and DO NOT put them in an ultrasonic cleaner.
Store pearls in a soft cloth or pouch. (BARRETT'S has a variety
of sizes and colors of silk pouches especially designed for your

Many people have their pearl strands restrung yearly so that
the silk is always new, strong, and free of makeup and oil.
The moral of the story is . . . Take extra care with your
precious investment. Pearls are family herlooms IF they are treated
properly.
